FAQs

Read the espresso frequently asked questions and fun facts below.

What does the word espresso mean?

When translating the Italian word to English, it means “to express.” However, it refers to strong black coffee produced by forcing steam through ground coffee beans.

How is espresso made?

Espresso is made by forcing boiling water under extreme pressure through finely ground, compacted coffee beans. This lets the water penetrate the coffee, thus allowing a significantly richer and robust taste than some other coffees.

Also, unlike other brewing methods, the crema is made by emulsifying oils into the ground coffee in a colloid. Crema refers to the light-colored liquid that comes out during the espresso extraction.

How do I celebrate the day?

To celebrate the day, you can try a different way of making espresso and enjoy it with your friends. You may also decide to invest in a new coffee brewer or enjoy breakfast with your family members.

Moreover, you can order through a local drive-through and pay for the customer behind you in the line. As well as that, you can pick up some espresso for the others in the office.

Having espresso delivered to front-line workers at the fire station, ambulance bay, hospital, or police station is also a warm gesture. Finally, you can step out of your comfort zone and try a new espresso flavor, like cappuccino or latte.

Fun Facts

While filtered coffee contains only 0.6% fat, there is 2.5% fat in an espresso shot. This fat comes from the natural oils in coffee beans.

Espresso can also be blended with milk for making specialty milk-based coffees like latte, cappuccino, or flat white, among others. Cappuccinos, for instance, are created by pouring in foamed milk on top of a single or double-shot espresso.

Almost 42 coffee beans are required to make a single-shot espresso.

Espresso has become significantly easier with modern machines and can be made with the touch of a single button.
