Thank You Veterans

Thank you, veterans! We owe a debt of appreciation to the folks who serve to make our lives safe and comfortable. This article provides thank-you message ideas, quotes, and meaningful advice on connecting with vets.

“Armistice Day” was started in 1919 as a way to commemorate the end of World War I. In 1928, Congress passed a resolution to make an annual observance.

November 11 became the official date for the observance and a National Holiday in 1938. In 1954, the holiday officially became Veteran’s Day to celebrate the service of all veterans living and dead.

We have assembled a list of heartfelt messages that you can use as you wish. Maybe you will find an appropriate saying in this list, or it might inspire you to create your own.

How to Use These Messages

These short messages are perfect for sharing via text, email, or Social Media. A quick message to send to a veteran or person on active duty can brighten their day and make them feel appreciated.

It wouldn’t take very much time to write a brief note or mail a card with a message to a veteran.

Other ideas would be making a contribution to a military charity in a veteran’s name, volunteering at a veteran’s organization, or you can even donating your frequent flier miles to charities that provide help to family members who want to visit a wounded warrior.

If you are in a position to do so, you could hire a veteran, or veteran’s spouse, bring in a veteran to speak to your company, or donate supplies to groups that are building or remodeling homes for veterans.

Whenever possible, you can frequent veteran-owned businesses or even add them to your company’s supply chain. All of these are ways to thank veterans for their service and to recognize all they do for us on a daily basis.

How Do You Say Thank You To A Veteran

A Cohen Veteran Network poll found that many veterans were uncomfortable with what to say when they were thanked for their service by strangers. One of the reasons: they don’t really know what to say back.

One of the insights from the poll suggested that instead of just saying a simple platitude like, “Thank you for your service,” try to go beyond that and connect with the vet on a personal level.

Find out more about the individual. Words can be meaningful, but making a true connection means listening and connecting with veterans.

Other Ways to Say Thank You

Consider these options for expressing your gratitude.

A.) Volunteer your time at a veteran’s hospital or organization. Listen to veterans’ stories.

B.) Sponsor a veteran’s meal or an activity.

C.) Support veteran-owned businesses.

D.) Attend veteran events and recognitions.

E.) Advocate for veteran’s rights. Talk to your congressmen. Speak to your friends.

F.) Thank veterans’ families. Acknowledge the sacrifices that families make in support of their family member’s service.

Closing Thoughts

Thanking a veteran for all they do is a way to express our collective gratitude. The sacrifices they make and have made deserve our recognition and thanks.

A simple thank you for your service, along with a personal connection, shows your appreciation. We can never say thank you enough to all of our veterans.
